Lhobui, a villager in Xizang's Gurong Village, used to work odd jobs far from home. After the 2025 earthquake destroyed his village, he joined the rebuilding effort—operating an excavator for the first time since getting licensed.
He ran it for nearly three months, sharpening his skills and earning steady pay. By late 2025, families moved into new, warmer homes. Now, Lhobui is back on the machine for a local farmland project, making 300 yuan a day.
His 2026 plan? Earn more—and build a sunroom for his family.
